The Pancake Bell rung in Chapel-en-le-Frith on Shrove Tuesday morning

• At 11am, bell-ringers captain, John Hibbert, rings the Pancake Bell for 10 minutes at Chapel Parish Church - it's been a tradition for hundreds of years, marking the half-day holiday for workers, and reminding cooks to get the pancake batter ready for when the workers arrive home! Ringing since he was 9, John took on the Pancake Bell tradition from his father.

• Campaigners fighting to get the Manchester to Sheffield line reopened, mark the 30th anniversary of the last train with a hike to the halfway point above the Woodhead Tunnel on Saturday 16th July.
Derbyshire Air Ambulance collection bags - red/black not genuine; blue/yellow genuine


• Homes across the area have had red, black and white collection bags posted through their doors asking for donations to ‘Air Ambulance Service’ a profit-making organisation. Local registered charity DLRAA (Derbyshire Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance) has had calls and enquiries from the public who believe the bags are misleading.
• At first glance those donating are being lead to believe that they are supporting Air Ambulances across the country. However, the bag is not what it appears to be and goods donated will not be going towards supporting your local Air Ambulance, Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland.

• Ex-Midland Railway employee Elizabeth Nesbit cuts the tape at the Headstone Tunnel.




• The Monsal Trail is for everyone, whether on foot, on bicycle or on horseback.

• Each more than 400 metres long, the tunnels are lit from dawn till dusk.

• Two people are injured after the crane tumbles 40ft during demolition work at Buxton's Haddon Hall Hotel.
A Day Spent in Auschwitz Concentration Camp
• High Peak Radio's Ben Price and MP Andrew Bingham recently joined local students spending a day in Auschwitz.• The trip was part of the government-funded "Lessons from Auschwitz" Project delivered by the Holocaust Education Trust. Two pupils were selected from each of a number of schools across the East Midlands, including Glossopdale Community College and New Mills Business and Enterprise College.
• The students had both a pre-visit, and a post-visit seminar to help them through the experience. Plus there was support on the day from the Auschwitz guides. The students who went now become ambassadors for the "Lessons from Auschwitz" Project, and will give talks to fellow students on lessons that can be learned from the Holocaust.
