The Breakfast Show - with Leighton Morris
Didn't he do WELL!
High Peak Radio breakfast show presenter Leighton Morris has picked up the award for the best breakfast show in the East Midlands. He narrowly beat Banbury Sound’s Lucy Jones and ex-Radio 1 legend Simon Bates to the award.
The gong was awarded after an on-line poll conducted by Merry Kova, a leading UK-based media website.
Leighton has presented the breakfast show on the High Peak’s commercial radio station since it launched in 2004. It is sponsored by Jackson’s Carpets of Chinley. He also presents the Friday evening programme on sister station Ashbourne Radio, which covers the Southern Derbyshire Dales and the Staffs Moorland borders.
‘I’m absolutely thrilled to win this award. We’re not the most fashionable radio station in the East Midlands and we’re certainly not one of the biggest, so I was delighted to be able to take on the biggest names in local radio and win,’ said Leighton, speaking shortly after the announcement at High Peak Radio’s Chapel-en-le-Frith studio.
‘I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me for their support; I’ll now go on to the Nationals, where I’ll be up against the best in the country – and I’m really looking forward to it.’
High Peak Radio broadcasts on 106.4, 106.6 and 103.3FM throughout the High Peak and Hope Valley areas of Derbyshire and has done so since April 2004. It opened a sister station, Ashbourne Radio, in May 2008, which broadcasts to Ashbourne, Dovedale, Wirksworth and the Ecclesbourne Valley and the Staffordshire Moorland Borders on 96.7 and 101.8FM.
This is the third major award the stations have won since 2009, when Ashbourne Radio picked up a Plain English Award for clear communications in broadcasting, and veteran sports reporter Norman Taylor won an award from High Peak Borough Council for his services to sport in the Borough.
Leighton Morris can be heard on High Peak Radio every weekday morning between 6AM and 10AM. He can also be heard on Ashbourne Radio on Friday evenings from 7PM.
